Background of the establishment of the Iranian Sculptors Association

The Association of Iranian Sculptors can be considered as one of the most important institutions for the development of Iranian sculptural activities, which was created with the motive of raising the level of knowledge of artists and promoting art and national identity.

The first activities of this association were established in 1988 by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. One of the most effective decisions of the Ministry of Guidance in this area is to invite the country's top artists to evaluate the sculptures that can be installed in the city. An action that led to the revival of the "Council for Quality Supervision and Installation of Works" in the period after the Islamic Revolution of Iran. This specialized council was formed for two years under the supervision of the Ministry of Islamic Guidance and became active and became the first Iranian art association after the Islamic Revolution. During its two years of activity, the association consisted of a total of 24 general and special members. One of the most important decisions and activities of this period is to lay the groundwork and advise senior cultural managers on the importance and place of sculpture in urban spaces. Holding the first official exhibition of Iranian sculpture in 1988 at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Iran has been another effect of the association, which is considered as a resumption of social activities of Iranian sculpture in the post-revolutionary period. This exhibition was organized with the cooperation and support of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Relics and Values of the Sacred Defense.

The Iranian Sculptors Association officially started working in 1998 with the election of the first board of directors. This association, with the presence of prominent artists and university professors, as the most important official sculpture institution in Iran, has played many executive, supervisory and advisory roles. On the other hand, a look at other activities of this association, such as education, research and publication of specialized materials, shows its significant contribution in expanding public awareness and promoting the capabilities of this art.
